Advancing the Village

Advancing the Village: Addressing Disparities and Connecting the Dots in Maternal Mental Health Conference, 2020

On March 6th, 2020 The Philadelphia Department of Public Health Healthy Start Program, Drexel University College of Medicine, Behavioral Healthcare and  Drexel Maternal and Child Programs hosted their annual Perinatal Depression Conference. Input for this conference was provided by the Philadelphia Community Action Network’s Integrated Care work group.

Advancing the Village: Addressing Disparities and Connecting the Dots in Maternal Mental Health, examined how pregnant people and new mothers and birthing people experience depression, how systemic racism effects perinatal mental health, and the experience of receiving behavioral health care as a pregnant person or new mother or birthing person of color. Our goal was to concentrate on the inherent strengths of individuals, families, groups and organizations in order to promote asset-based advocacy and healing for patients in healthcare settings. By connecting the many “dots” that impact maternal mental health experiences we hoped to aid in recovery and well being in the community.
