Building Birth Support: A Survey of Philadelphia’s Doula Workforce

The CAN’s Holistic Approach to Maternal Health Care workgroup recently worked with the Data & Evaluation team in the Philadelphia Division of Maternal, Child, and Family Health (MCFH) to conduct a comprehensive city-wide survey to identify opportunities for strengthening the doula workforce in Philadelphia, PA.

The aims of the survey were: 1) Gather information about the demographic characteristics of the doula workforce in Philadelphia, PA, 2) Understand how the workgroup can support the doulas serving Philadelphia residents, 3) Explore how doulas currently serve clients and compensation for services and 4) Identify gaps in the current doula workforce to inform the focus of the workgroup initiative.

The results of the survey can be found in a new report, “Building Birth Support: A Survey of Philadelphia’s Doula Workforce.”
